Quick & Dirty Muffin Cap

These hats go by several names: Mob cap, Floppy cap, Muffin cap, and Beret. There are probably quite a few others, and most of those names refer to caps other than the one I'm about to show you.

  1. Measure your head, where you'd like the cap to rest. Add about an inch, and cut a piece of extra wide, double fold bias tape to length.

  1. Use the bias tape to make a circle and set it on top of your fabric. Trace around the circle, but AT LEAST 1-2” further on all sides. The bigger the fabric circle, the puffier/floppier the hat.
  2.
  3. Thread a needle with contrasting color thread.
  4.
  5. Make large stitches (called basting) along the outer edge of the fabric circle.
  6.
  7. When you're done, pull the thread slightly to gather the fabric.
  8.
  9. Baste, or pin the fabric to the inside edge of one of folds of bias tape. Stitch it together.
  10.
  11. Make sure that none of the fabric edge has escaped the bias tape. Fold the other side of the bias tape to cover the other side of the fabric circle, and stitch together.
