Quick & Dirty Garb Making
The best part about participating in Renaissance Faires and the SCA is that most of the clothes can be made entirely with squares and triangles, and no pattern at all.
How? With measurements, a goodly amount of fabric, and only mediocre sewing skills, you can make a passable set of garb. If you can afford to buy a bodice, or have the sewing skills to make one with a pattern, all the better.

Keep in mind that you'll want to make all the measurements before shopping for fabric, since you'll need to know how much to buy. However, my most creative and attractive garb has come from not buying enough fabric, and needing to “patch in” alternate fabrics.
